Beginners Obedience – CGC and Continuing Students to CGCU/CGCA
Foundation manners and obedience is ideally suited for young dogs who have completed AKC STAR puppy or similar. Participants will learn foundational training techniques to enable participants and their dog(s) to meet real world social situations, maintain desirable home behaviors, and or begin a journey in performance or companion competition.
For New Students Starting 9-1-2021
The primary focus of the 12-week class (4 week boot camp to start) will be impulse control and helping dog handler teams develop a solid working relationship (engagement). Classes will be conducted in a collaborative, workshop-like atmosphere. Participants may be required to bring basic training equipment or items from home to support specific training scenarios.
Those participants who complete the 12 weeks of class may choose to prepare and take the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test and earn the title.
Continuing students Starting 9-29-2021
Will complete an 8-week course with a review of the prior Beginning Obedience and continuing onto some more challenging environments/distractions and activities. These students who have completed a CGC may prepare and take the CGCU or CGCA evaluation. With advance notice ATTS testing may be arranged on request.
Each class is limited to 10 dogs and fills quickly (click here to register). Dogs must be a minimum of 6 months old and have received their puppy shots. Owner / handler must be at least 10 years old and able to maintain basic control of the dog being trained. Mixed breed dogs are encouraged and welcome. WKC also offers S.T.A.R. Puppy Classes.
